Senegal’s “gas to power” strategy is beginning to take shape. Indeed, the US Agency for Trade and Development (USTDA) in charge of financing the feasibility study of the construction project of the 144 km gas pipeline from Yakaar-Teranga, in the area of Saint Louis deep offshore and Cayar deep offshore, to Dakar is in the phase of advanced studies.
According to the said Agency, Advisian, the American firm conducting the study intends to organize  a webinar for information sharing on potential American suppliers on September 22. With a cost of about 131.2 billion CFA francs, or 200 million euros, the onshore pipeline will transport gas from the processing plant at the Yakaar-Teranga site to the nine gas-fired power plants.
The challenge of infrastructure is to contribute to the reduction of the cost of domestic energy and in turn to achieve the country’s energy independence.
