The second edition of the great Carnival of Dakar (from 26 to 28 November 2021) ended yesterday, in Obelisk Place.
Adding value and promoting the culture as a tool of territorial marketing, the carnival brought together cultural actors from Dakar and the regions of Senegal. A platform of cultural expression, which wishes to present a traditional and contemporary mosaic of Senegal.
“Tales and legends of Senegal and elsewhere” is the theme chosen for this year. According to the organizers of the event, “the action is driven by a strong commitment to the exchange between peoples and the dialogue of cultures. The ambition is to actively participate in the dissemination and influence of Senegalese culture.”
The Great Carnival of Dakar is an event that is part of the whole dynamic of the cultural industry. It also contributes to visibility and sustainable employment in the territories.
This second edition was attended by personalities from the world of culture. Mrs Diouma Dieng Diakhaté has been chosen as the 2021 godmother of the “Grand Carnival of Dakar”. The event also saw the participation of Mrs Fatou Jupiter Touré, actress and organizer of the “Teranga Movies Awards” and Mr Fodé Sylla, associative activist and ambassador-at-large to the Head of State. Canada was in the spotlight. It is portrayed by storyteller Kathia Rock.
The edition also brought together cultural and tourism actors, artisans, chefs etc. offering performances and shows to the public. The ceremony was closed with the tasting of traditional dishes.
